Could Have Been THE ONE
Philippine president (now Ex) Fidel V Ramos could have been one of the best presidents of the Philippines. During his 6 year term, he managed to stop those maddening brownouts, made the Philippines an economic "Asian tiger" , started the peace process between the secessionist MILF (at the southern tip ) and the government.
What people should know.. Ramos was a TRUE democrat! (probably the only one among presidents) He believed in "talking it out" between every warring factions (Please read his book "Break not the Peace" ) ; modernized the Armed Forces, allowed even the lefties to run for parliament or Congress and did NOT consult the Church (which is nice) when he decided to ask his health Secretary Juan Flavier to give away condoms and EDUCATE people about family planning and reproductive health. Wanted to change the PRESENT Constitution to something BETTER!
and yes that is me.
Ex Senate President Jovito Salonga - when you're talking of RIGHTEOUS men this one is ONE of them. In the 1970's (?) there was some bombing in Manila and he was clinically dead, but managed to be revived. In the late 80's he was Senate President and when he got tired, he would talk like he has asthma.. I asked him why and he said that there was still a shrapnel on his lungs. I was in the media then and he invited me to his house. His secret for staying healthy (despite the fact that he was about 68 THEN) was that he has a small swimming pool and he would take a 30 minute swim at least a day to practice his lungs. GOOD in the real sense is one word to describe him.. he also is judicious (totally fair).

@Attempted Humor, everything seemed to "break down" after Fidel Ramos. We were the only nation that survived the Asian economic crisis of 1997, and yet I find it difficult to understand how some people do not see that Ramos was the best of the best, other countries included.
Your face has always been symmetrical, there is no "better" side and even without powder or make-up you manage to maintain the same beauty.
i Debugs, every nation needs a 'Fidel Ramos', but alas they are in short supply. The selfish and corrupt take over and the people suffer. You would have had a better understanding of the goings on, being a journalist. Cheers

Doing fine, Bugsy! Writing on other venues now, as HP seems to be self-destructing slowly but surely. I have little hope of this site ever getting back its ranking in the SERPS. Still making fair money but I suspect they are manipulating the time-share in their favor.
Oh well, content sites cannot be trusted to deal fairly with their writers as long as they can get away with manipulating the stats.
